Vase in High-Fired Ceramic with Hand-Painted Motifs and Glaze

This high-fired ceramic vase features hand-painted motifs beneath a glaze, with an intentionally irregular cream-white ground and expressive brushwork lending it a classical character.

Three designs offer different shapes and decoration. Design A has a spherical body decorated with a green and iron-red fish with incised scales. Design B has an egg-shaped body on a raised foot, decorated with iron-brown clouds and a rosette. Design C has a tall baluster shape, a flared neck and a cobalt-blue bamboo and bird motif.

Approximate dimensions, given as diameter × height, are A: 27 × 27 cm; B: 28 × 29.2 cm; and C: 20 × 37 cm. The opening diameters are 15 cm outside and 12.7 cm inside for B, and 13.5 cm outside and 8 cm inside for C. Speckling, paint application and motif placement intentionally vary and are not defects.

Style B with dried grasses on a dining table, or place C with tall branches on an entrance console.
